What to Know

  • Play a video with subtitles available.
  • Click the Closed Caption or Subtitles (speech bubble) icon.
  • Click the language you want,e.g., English [CC].
  • If you don’t see any options in this menu, that means the video doesn’t have subtitles available. Some videos have multiple language options, some just have one, and others have none at all.
  • Subtitles are now enabled.

You can also enable subtitles in the Prime Video app on your streaming device, like a Fire Stick, game console, or smart TV.

Click the Closed Caption or Subtitles (speech bubble) icon.

If you don’t see any options in this menu, that means the video doesn’t have subtitles available. Some videos have multiple language options, some just have one, and others have none at all.

Subtitles are now enabled.

Some devices allow you to turn subtitles on or off in the settings of the device itself. If your remote has a CC button, it may turn the subtitles on right away. In other cases, you may need to navigate to accessibility options in the device settings.

  • Play a video with subtitles available.
  • If you aren’t sure which button on your remote or controller opens the Options menu, pause the video.
  • Press the Options button on your remote and select Subtitles.
  • Select Off.
  • If the button says a language instead of Off, that means subtitles are already on.
  • Select the language you want, e.g., English [CC].
  • Adjust the subtitle settings if you want, or press Play.
  • The subtitles are now on.

If you aren’t sure which button on your remote or controller opens the Options menu, pause the video.

Press the Options button on your remote and select Subtitles.

Adjust the subtitle settings if you want, or press Play.

The subtitles are now on.

You have three presets to choose from, if you want to change one, click Edit.

Choose the text color, size, font, shadow or outline, background color, and background outline, then click Save.

Check your new presets, and continue editing until you are satisfied.

Press the Home button on your Roku remote, and then select Settings from the menu on the screen. Navigate to Accessibility > Captions Mode, and then select Off.
